Welcome to the Cloud Computing and Security Lab Manual repository. This is an open-source, community-driven, experiment-wise manual designed for students, educators, enthusiasts, and hobbyists worldwide to learn and teach cloud computing and security concepts.
This repository contains step-by-step guides, code templates, and configuration instructions for cloud computing laboratory experiments. It covers key domains:
- Virtualization: Creating isolated local environments.
- Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS): Cloud instance provisioning and configuration (e.g., AWS EC2).
- Software/Platform as a Service (SaaS/PaaS): Cloud application development and automation (e.g., Salesforce Apex).
- Cloud Simulation: Modeling and evaluating scheduling algorithms in cloud environments (e.g., CloudSim).
| # | Experiment Title | Environment / Tools | Link |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Virtualization: Hypervisor & Guest OS Setup | VirtualBox / VMware, Linux | Go to Lab |
| 2 | Environment Setup & Basic Compilation | GCC Compiler, Ubuntu VM | Pending |
| 3 | Provisioning Virtual Servers in the Cloud | AWS EC2, SSH, Key Pairs | Go to Lab |
| 4 | Cloud Application Development with Apex | Salesforce Developer Org, Apex | Go to Lab |
| 5 | Automating Services: Cloud-based Emailing | Salesforce Apex Email Service | Pending |
| 6 | Cloud Infrastructure Simulation & Scheduling | CloudSim, Eclipse/Java | Go to Lab |
| 9 | Deploying Web Applications on Google App Engine | Google App Engine (GAE), Python | Go to Lab |
(Additional experiments can be added following the contribution guidelines.)
To get the most out of this manual, you will need:
- A laptop/desktop with a minimum of 8GB RAM (16GB recommended for simulations).
- An active internet connection.
- A free account on:
- AWS Free Tier (requires a credit card for sign-up, but basic usage within limits is free).
- Salesforce Developer Edition (completely free).
- Text editor or IDE (e.g., VS Code, Eclipse, or Salesforce Developer Console).
- Self-Learners / Students: Navigate to the experiments folder and select the experiment you want to perform. Follow the step-by-step documentation.
- Educators / Teachers: You can fork this repository to customize it for your institution's syllabus, add/modify tasks, and use the provided Viva-Voce questions for assessments.
- Hobbyists: Clone the repository and experiment with virtual machines, AWS, Salesforce, and CloudSim.
We welcome contributions! Whether it is fixing typos, updating cloud screenshots, writing new experiments, or optimizing scripts, please refer to our Contributing Guide for conventions and instructions.
