Summary

Fix the first forgelm ingest example in both Document Ingestion user-manual pages so it runs as shown, and show the output summarize_result actually prints.

Related issues

Fixes #395 (CR-A12-004)

Changes

  • docs/usermanuals/en/data/ingestion.md and docs/usermanuals/tr/data/ingestion.md: keep --chunk-tokens 1024, add --tokenizer "Qwen/Qwen2.5-7B-Instruct", and replace the invented tick-mark output with the real Ingestion summary / Files (in/out) layout. The shell block is identical in both languages because CLI output is English-only; no Turkish narrative text changed.
  • tests/test_usermanual_reference_consistency.py: add TestIngestionPageQuickExampleStaysRunnable, parametrized over ("en", "tr"). It extracts the first forgelm ingest shell block, joins the continuation lines, parses it with shlex.split, asserts --chunk-tokens comes with --tokenizer, and asserts the page shows the summarize_result labels.
  • CHANGELOG.md: one entry under ## [Unreleased] -> ### Fixed.

Testing

Run from the repository root:

  • pytest tests/test_usermanual_reference_consistency.py --no-cov -> 123 passed
  • python3 tools/check_cli_help_consistency.py --strict -> OK, 515 invocations match the parser
  • python3 tools/check_bilingual_code_blocks.py --strict -> OK, 118 pairs
  • python3 tools/check_bilingual_parity.py --strict -> OK, 118 pairs
  • python3 tools/check_usermanual_self_contained.py --strict -> OK, 134 pages
  • ruff format --check . and ruff check . (pinned ruff>=0.4.0,<0.16.0 as CI installs) -> clean

The four new test cases fail on the current development docs (no --tokenizer, no Ingestion summary/Files (in/out)) and pass with this change.

**Tokenizer flag can lack its value**

When the documented command includes `--tokenizer` with no following model name, when the example contains `--tokenizer` without a model name, `test_chunk_tokens_is_paired_with_a_tokenizer` still passes because it only checks that the flag is present; argparse rejects the copied command, so the quick-start remains unrunnable.

Assert that `--tokenizer` is followed by a non-empty model name, or parse the extracted command with the CLI parser.

**Summary paths differ from actual output**

When a reader runs the documented command with its relative output path, `ingest_path` resolves the relative `--output` path to an absolute path, and `summarize_result` prints that path in the output, audit, and training hints. The manuals show those paths as relative, so the displayed sample does not match the command’s actual output.

Show the resolved-path behavior in the sample or clearly mark the path values as illustrative rather than verbatim output.

… guard

Addresses the Sourcery review on HodeTech#1060: the previous assertion only
checked that the flag was present, so a bare `--tokenizer` (which
argparse rejects) would still pass. Assert the flag is followed by a
non-flag value.

Thanks for the review.

  • 🟡 --tokenizer can lack its value — addressed in d4962d6: test_chunk_tokens_is_paired_with_a_tokenizer now also asserts that --tokenizer is followed by a non-flag model name, so a bare flag (which argparse rejects) fails the guard. pytest tests/test_usermanual_reference_consistency.py --no-cov -> 123 passed; the new assertion fails on a bare --tokenizer.
  • ⚪ Summary paths differ from actual output — intentionally left as-is. The maintainer brief on User-manual quick example fails with exit 1 and prints output the tool never produces (EN and TR) (CR-A12-004) #395 already states "The output is the real summarize_result layout; the numbers are illustrative", and the block is the exact one the maintainer asked for, so the sample is meant to be illustrative rather than verbatim output. Changing it is out of scope for this fix.

CI and Validate user-manuals on the new head still need a maintainer to approve the first workflow run from this contributor.

Hi @lesbass, thank you for this. It is a careful, well-scoped fix, and the PR description made reviewing it easy.

We checked out the branch (head d4962d6, on top of development 735a02f) and verified it end to end:

  • The command now runs. We executed the documented command with a local tokenizer: exit 0, and the output has exactly the summarize_result layout shown on both pages (labels, spacing, the two Note lines, the Next: / Or train: hints).
  • The tests are real. All four fail on development and pass on your branch. Removing --tokenizer, leaving it without a value, or putting the old tick-mark lines back into the Turkish page each makes a test fail.
  • The defect is gone everywhere. After your change, no forgelm ingest example with --chunk-tokens but without --tokenizer remains on any public surface (user manuals, guides, reference, site, notebooks, README).
  • The full local gauntlet from CLAUDE.md is green on your branch (6664 passed, every guard OK).

One thing is left, and it comes from our own "Where to start" note rather than from your work. ingest_path resolves --output to an absolute path (Path(output_path).expanduser().resolve() in forgelm/ingestion.py). So the real summary prints an absolute path in the Output JSONL, Next: and Or train: lines, as Sourcery pointed out. We told you that only the numbers were illustrative, but the relative paths are too, and this issue is precisely about the example showing output the tool never prints.

The two suggestions below make the three lines match. They use an absolute example path in the same style as the other manual pages (/srv/...). After applying them, reply to the Sourcery thread and resolve it; development requires resolved conversations before merge.

Nit (optional): the new CHANGELOG entry is a single long line, while its neighbours wrap at about 120 characters.

On our side, CI has not run yet because first-time contributors' workflows need a maintainer's approval. We will approve the runs, and merge once they are green.

If you enjoy working on ForgeLM, a ⭐ on the repository helps us a lot, and there are more good first issues waiting.

Apply the maintainer's review suggestions on HodeTech#1060: `ingest_path` resolves
`--output` with `Path(...).resolve()`, so `summarize_result` prints an
absolute path in the `Output JSONL`, `Next:` and `Or train:` lines. Both the
English and Turkish pages now show `/srv/project/data/policies.jsonl`.

Also harden the guard so a bare `--chunk-tokens` (no token count) fails, and
wrap the CHANGELOG entry at the neighbours' width.

Thanks @cemililik for the careful review and for the two suggestion blocks.

Pushed 313ddbc:

  • Both the English and Turkish pages now show /srv/project/data/policies.jsonl in the Output JSONL, Next: and Or train: lines, exactly as suggested.
  • test_chunk_tokens_is_paired_with_a_tokenizer now also requires a positive integer after --chunk-tokens (the CodeRabbit point), so a bare flag fails the guard.
  • The CHANGELOG entry is wrapped at the neighbours' width.

Re-ran locally: pytest tests/test_usermanual_reference_consistency.py --no-cov -> 123 passed; the four strict guards (check_cli_help_consistency, check_bilingual_code_blocks, check_bilingual_parity, check_usermanual_self_contained) -> OK; ruff format --check / ruff check on the test file -> clean. All review conversations are now resolved.

Thank you, @lesbass. This is ready to merge.

We re-checked 313ddbc:

  • The two suggestions are applied exactly. The pages differ from the previous head only in the three path lines, and the quick-example block is identical in English and Turkish.
  • The new --chunk-tokens check works. It fails when the count is missing and when it is 0, and the four tests still fail on development and pass here.
  • The CHANGELOG entry is wrapped, and every review conversation is resolved.
  • CI is green, and so is the full local gauntlet from CLAUDE.md.

The documentation pages are often the first thing someone copies from, so fixing the very first command on the ingestion page makes a real difference for new users. Thank you for taking the issue through /assign, for keeping the scope tight, and for following up on every review point so quickly.

We would be glad to see you again. If you enjoyed working on ForgeLM, a ⭐ on the repository helps other people find the project, and there are more good first issues waiting, from tests and tooling to notebooks and the user manual.
