Summary

Fix the review findings on the development → main promotion (#1061): two user-manual examples that did not match the tool, and invisible characters written literally in string literals, one of which failed CodeFactor (Bandit B613).

Related issues

None. The findings come from the review of #1061, and they reach it when this pull request merges into development. The flaky test (3.11) on #1061 is tracked in #1047; a data point is added there.

Changes

  • PII masking page (EN + TR).

    • The quick example now shows the real forgelm ingest --pii-mask summary (Note : PII masking redacted 18 span(s): email=11, phone=7). It replaces a ✓ masked 18 PII matches across 12,240 chunks line the tool never prints; the Turkish page had even translated that CLI output.
    • The audit-only example now audits data/policies-raw.jsonl, the same documents ingested without --pii-mask, with the real output shape (absolute Source, Report written to:).
    • A new sentence says that auditing the masked file prints no PII line. I checked this by running ingest with and without --pii-mask on a small corpus and auditing both outputs. The old example showed email=18, phone=4 for the masked file, which the tool cannot produce.
  • GDPR erasure page (EN + TR). The page used to say the identifier never leaves the operator's terminal. It now says that the audit chain records a salted digest instead of the identifier. The identifier is still typed on the command line, and forgelm reverse-pii prints the matching corpus lines unmasked (_emit_reverse_pii_result warns about this itself).

  • Invisible characters in string literals. These are now written as escapes:

    • U+202E in tests/test_issue_dependencies.py: this is the CodeFactor failure, Bandit B613 "Trojan Source".
    • U+200B and U+2060 in tests/test_safety_advanced.py.
    • U+FEFF in forgelm/ingestion.py and tests/test_ingestion_reliability.py: same class, found by a repository-wide scan.

Every string constant in these four files is identical before and after, compared through the AST. bandit -t B613 -r forgelm tests tools reports nothing.

  • One CHANGELOG line under [Unreleased] → Fixed.

Not changed. CodeFactor's other note on #1061 is "Complex Method" at tests/test_issue_dependencies.py:738-767. It is a notice, not a failure, and it points at the fake GitHub client's endpoint router. Each branch there is one endpoint the tool calls, and the repository's ruff selection (F, E9, W, B, I) does not include a complexity rule.

Testing

  • The full local gauntlet passes: 32 steps, 6,671 tests passed.
  • The documentation and CHANGELOG guards were re-run after the CHANGELOG line, together with the tests that read the CHANGELOG (592 passed).
  • The ingest and audit output shown on the PII-masking page was taken from real runs on a small corpus, with the counts scaled to the page's example.
  • Bandit B613 was run before and after: one finding on development, none on this branch.

Checklist

  • Documentation updated with its Turkish mirror in the same pull request

Bug Fixes:

  • Correct the English and Turkish PII-masking manual examples to match the actual ingest and audit output, including the distinction between masked and unmasked corpora.
  • Correct the GDPR erasure documentation to accurately describe salted audit digests and the unmasked output of reverse-PPI searches.

Enhancements:

  • Replace invisible Unicode characters in source and test string literals with explicit escape sequences without changing their values.

Documentation:

  • Update the English and Turkish user manuals with accurate PII-masking and GDPR-erasure behavior and command examples.

Chores:

  • Add the documentation corrections to the unreleased changelog.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Documentation
    • Updated the English and Turkish compliance guides to clarify that the audit chain records a salted digest, while the identifier is still entered on the command line and matching corpus lines are shown unmasked by reverse lookup.
    • Revised PII-masking examples to show ingestion summaries and audit results for unmasked input. Clarified that auditing masked output does not report PII when the patterns no longer match.

…escapes

Review findings on the development -> main promotion (#1061):

- The PII-masking page (EN + TR) shows the real `forgelm ingest
--pii-mask` summary instead of a "masked 18 PII matches" line the tool
never prints (the Turkish page had translated CLI output), and its
audit-only example reads an unmasked corpus. Auditing the masked
output prints no PII line, so the old counts could not come from it.
- The GDPR erasure page (EN + TR) no longer says the identifier never
leaves the operator's terminal: the audit chain records a salted
digest, but the identifier is typed on the command line and
`reverse-pii` prints matching corpus lines unmasked.
- Literal invisible characters in string literals are written as
  escapes: U+202E in tests/test_issue_dependencies.py (Bandit B613,
Trojan Source, which failed CodeFactor), U+200B and U+2060 in
  tests/test_safety_advanced.py, and U+FEFF in forgelm/ingestion.py and
tests/test_ingestion_reliability.py. Every string constant in the
four files is unchanged (compared through the AST).

Reviewer's Guide

This documentation-focused fix aligns both localized PII/GDPR manual pages with observed ForgeLM CLI output and actual privacy behavior, while making invisible Unicode characters explicit in code and tests to resolve Trojan Source scanning findings; it also records the changes under the Unreleased changelog.

📝 Walkthrough

The English and Turkish manuals now show revised PII-masking examples and clarify GDPR erasure wording. The ingestion BOM check and several test inputs spell Unicode characters with escape sequences; the represented characters and behavior are unchanged.

Changes: Manual updates

Layer / File(s) Summary
PII-masking examples
CHANGELOG.md, docs/usermanuals/en/data/pii-masking.md, docs/usermanuals/tr/data/pii-masking.md
The examples show detailed ingestion summaries and audit reports for unmasked input. They note that auditing masked output does not report the same PII patterns.
GDPR erasure wording
docs/usermanuals/en/compliance/gdpr-erasure.md, docs/usermanuals/tr/compliance/gdpr-erasure.md
The manuals state that the audit chain records a salted digest. They also state that the identifier is entered on the command line and reverse-pii prints matching corpus lines unmasked.

Unicode escape spelling

Layer / File(s) Summary
Unicode escape spellings
forgelm/ingestion.py, tests/test_ingestion_reliability.py, tests/test_issue_dependencies.py, tests/test_safety_advanced.py
The BOM check and test inputs use explicit Unicode escape sequences instead of literal characters. The represented strings and behavior are unchanged.
