Export the KV cache in the functional export API and share MLA's fused down-projection ranges - #2981
Conversation
…n ranges Add get_kv_cache_export_spec / capture_kv_cache_export_state to the functional quantized-weight export API, and a kv_cache_formats argument to build_hf_quantization_config, so Megatron-Bridge can export k_scale / v_scale and kv_cache_quant_algo the way export_mcore_gpt_to_hf does. vLLM and TensorRT-LLM fuse MLA's q_down and kv_down projections into one GEMM with one scale per tensor. Calibration now gives the Megatron-Core linear_q_down_proj / linear_kv_down_proj pair one per-tensor input and weight range, and SHARED_PATTERNS groups them for static NVFP4. Full details: Title check
-
Explanation
The title names two changes that both appear in the changeset: KV-cache export through the functional export API (get_kv_cache_export_spec, capture_kv_cache_export_state, build_hf_quantization_config with kv_cache_formats) and sharing MLA's fused down-projection ranges (linear_q_down_proj/linear_kv_down_proj grouping and _sync_mla_fused_down_proj_amax). The title is concise, specific, and matches the PR objectives, so the main changes are clearly summarized.

Nudge: the change is small and builds on the existing SharedWeightGlobalAmaxState / functional-export machinery, so the design question is settled. But the PR body says several validation runs are still in progress, and one calibration path may undo the shared range.
Needs action:
- Confirm the pending runs pass and record the results in the PR body: the MLA test against
mainwithout the fix, the KV-export comparison intest_unified_export_megatron.py, and the fulltests/unit/torch/{quantization,export}suites. - Fix or document the gap in
mse_calibrate/local_hessian_calibrate: they refine per-tensor weight amax aftermax_calibrate, which brings back separate q_down/kv_down weight ranges for non-static formats (see inline comment). - Add a unit test for
_sync_mla_fused_down_proj_amaxon a plainnn.Modulepair. Cover the W4A8SequentialQuantizer[-1]branch and the skip when one side is disabled. The GPU test only covers FP8 and NVFP4. - Confirm the owner accepts the restore behaviour: old static-NVFP4 MLA checkpoints silently tie
kv_downtoq_down's saved global range. Consider a warning instead of relying on the changelog alone.
No action needed:
- The local
plugins.megatronimport in_finalize_with_shared_statefollows the existing_check_nvfp4_static_tp_supportedpattern (optional Megatron dependency). - The test edits only add checks. Nothing is loosened.
- There is no licensing change. Core logic is about 150 lines, well under the size budget.

Tear down Megatron in a finally block so one failing MLA case does not fail the next ones on re-initialization, and require the KV export check to find quantized attention modules. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <[email protected]> Signed-off-by: Keval Morabia <[email protected]>
The MSE and local-Hessian weight searches refine each per-tensor weight range on its own, which split the q_down / kv_down pair again; share it after the search as well. The sync moves into model_calib (it only uses attribute names), with CPU tests for the per-tensor, MSE, W4A8 and disabled-member cases. Record the shared-group patterns in the quantize metadata so restore groups modules as calibration did: checkpoints saved before the MLA pair was grouped restore with each member's own range instead of tying both into one buffer. Bot review (bedrock-claude-opus-5-5) — DM the bot to share feedback.
I'm nudging this again. Three of the four earlier concerns are fixed, but the PR body still says the validation runs are "Still running", so none of them are recorded yet.
Needs action:
- Record the results of the pending runs in the PR body: the MLA GPU test against
mainwithout the fix, the functional KV-export comparison intest_unified_export_megatron.py, and the fulltests/unit/torch/{quantization,export}suites. - Update the PR body's backward-compatibility note. It still says restoring an old static-NVFP4 MLA checkpoint ties
kv_downtoq_down's saved range. The newshared_quant_patternshandling inconversion.pynow restores these checkpoints with the pair kept separate.
No action needed:
- ✔️ Resolved since the last review: the MSE/local-Hessian re-sync in
_mse_calibrate_weights, the CPU unit tests for_sync_mla_fused_down_proj_amax(including the W4A8 stage and the disabled-member skip), and safe restore of old checkpoints via the savedshared_quant_patterns. - The author's reason for keeping one global
kv_cache_quant_algowhen only some attention modules quantize their cache holds up: it matchesexport_mcore_gpt_to_hf, and CodeRabbit withdrew its objection. - The design question is settled (it extends existing machinery). Core logic is about 140 lines, there are no licensing changes, and the test edits only add checks.

update_quantize_metadata resolved the shared-state patterns from the config it was given, but LoRA and AutoQuantize pass a default QuantizeConfig, which would record the default patterns for a model calibrated with custom ones. Each shared state now keeps the patterns that formed it, and the metadata records those. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <[email protected]> Signed-off-by: Keval Morabia <[email protected]>

Approve: everything from the earlier reviews is now fixed, and the PR body records the validation results.

No action needed:
- ✔️ Resolved since the last review: 6 earlier concerns are fixed. The two most significant:
- The PR body now records the validation runs. The MLA GPU test gives 3 passed, and all 3 fail on
main.tests/gpu_megatron/torch/exportgives 137 passed. The unit suites show no new failures, and the few failures listed also fail onmain. - The backward-compatibility note now says older checkpoints restore with the MLA pair ungrouped.
- The PR body now records the validation runs. The MLA GPU test gives 3 passed, and all 3 fail on
- Two CodeRabbit findings are settled:
- Keeping one global
kv_cache_quant_algomatchesexport_mcore_gpt_to_hf, and CodeRabbit withdrew its objection. shared_quant_patternsnow records the patterns from each shared state, not fromconfig.test_custom_grouping_patterns_survive_save_and_restorecovers this.
- Keeping one global
- I checked
attach(patterns=None). It creates no states, sogrouping_patternscan't record an empty list that would break a later restore. - The design is settled because it extends the existing
SharedWeightGlobalAmaxStateand functional-export code. Core logic is about 150 lines, the test edits only add checks, and nothing touches licensing.
Complex PR: spans 5 directories (≥ 5); 1 existing test file modified or removed. Looping in a human for approval.

The overall design looks good. One remaining gap: FP8_AFFINE_KV_CFG is accepted as FP8, but capture_kv_cache_export_state only returns scales and drops the calibrated K/V biases. Could we reject affine FP8 for now, until the capture API carries those biases too? |

LGTM: every earlier concern is fixed, the two new fixes come with tests, and the effect on hf_ptq is small. A human should sign off on the hf_ptq risk areas below.
Needs action:
- Sign off: changes to existing tests only add checks.
- Check hf_ptq save/restore. Static-NVFP4/MSE runs now write
shared_quant_patternsinto modelopt_state, andconversion.pyrestore reads it back. Spot-check--kv_auto_quantize_checkpointresume (#2664) and restoring a checkpoint saved before this PR. - Confirm the NVFP4 KV
k_scale/v_scalechange (now amax/448, 6x larger) is acceptable for the deprecated TRT-LLM export intrtllm/layer_utils.py, which sharesget_kv_cache_scaling_factor.
No action needed:
- ✔️ Resolved since the last review: the NVFP4 KV scale bug (sychen52) and the affine-FP8 KV rejection (mxinO). Both have tests.
- hf_ptq calibration doesn't change.
_sync_mla_fused_down_proj_amaxand the newSHARED_PATTERNSentry only match MCore'slinear_q_down_proj/linear_kv_down_projnames. HF MLA models useq_a_proj/kv_a_proj_with_mqa, so neither one does anything there. - hf_ptq's HF export doesn't change either. It writes KV scales through
postprocess_state_dict, notget_kv_cache_scaling_factor. - Minor: the new loop in
get_kv_cache_scaling_factordrops the oldscaling_factor > 0assert. - The design builds on existing code. There are no licensing changes, and the new core logic is about 165 lines.

…CUDA crashes (#3059) ### What does this PR do? Type of change: test Reruns a test once when it fails with a known transient error, using one mechanism for two kinds of flakiness: - **Blackwell CUDA crashes in `gpu_megatron`.** These tests were skipped on Blackwell; they now run again. This also covers `test_dsa_kv_cache_quant`, which was failing unrelated PRs. - **Hugging Face Hub, network and port-collision errors in every test group.** Before, only example commands run through `run_example_command` retried these, with their own loop. GPU tests that call `from_pretrained`, `load_dataset` or `snapshot_download` directly had no retry. `tests/conftest.py` adds `@pytest.mark.flaky(reruns=1, reruns_delay=10, only_rerun=[...])` from pytest-rerunfailures to every test. It reruns only failures whose exception chain matches one of these: - the Hub/network/port patterns, now shared in `tests/_test_utils/transient_errors.py`; - `TransientError`, which `run_example_command` now raises when a failed command's output shows one of those patterns, instead of retrying internally; - on Blackwell, for `gpu_megatron` tests that use a worker pool only: `illegal memory access`, `CUBLAS_STATUS_INTERNAL_ERROR`, or a worker death where every dead rank exited with -6 (SIGABRT), the same crash surfacing as an abort. Any other failure fails with no rerun, including assertion errors and a worker killed by OOM (-9). The same error twice in a row also fails. **Why one mechanism.** Every retry is visible in the log, where the old in-helper retry only printed a warning: a `RERUN` line for the attempt, a count in the final line (`462 passed, 3 rerun`), and, with `--rerun-show-tracebacks` now in `addopts`, a "rerun test summary info" section with each rerun attempt's traceback. Without that flag nothing showed why a test was rerun, since `-ra` and `--instafail` skip rerun attempts. Each attempt gets its own timeout. The tradeoff: a transient error in one step of a multi-step example test reruns the whole test, not just that command. **Matching fix.** For in-process example steps, the old retry searched `traceback.format_exc()`, which includes the source lines of each frame, so a pattern in code or a comment could trigger a retry. It now matches the exception chain's messages and the step's printed output. **Why a rerun works.** A failed job retires its worker pool, and the function-scoped `dist_workers*` fixtures give the rerun a fresh one. The crash depends on how many jobs a worker has run (see below), so a fresh worker passes the test. **Why all pool tests, not a marked list.** The crash lands on whichever test reaches about the 13th job in a worker, so any `gpu_megatron` test can hit it. A per-test marker would keep missing new victims. Tests that run CUDA in the pytest process are left out: a crash there breaks the process, and the rerun runs in the same one. **Why bother.** Both GPU CI lanes run on RTX PRO 6000 (Blackwell), so the 54 skipped test cases had no CI coverage. The skip reason also still named the old nemo:26.06 stack, while CI now runs nemo:26.08. **Tradeoff.** A real modelopt bug that causes an intermittent illegal memory access would be hidden by the rerun. A deterministic one still fails, since its rerun crashes too. The rerun count is in the final summary line, with each error in the "rerun test summary info" section; a rising count means a regression or a worse upstream stack. Changes: - **`tests/conftest.py`**: the rerun marker, replacing the `flaky_cuda_crash_on_blackwell` marker and xfail hook from the earlier commits of this PR. - **`tests/_test_utils/transient_errors.py`**: the shared pattern list (moved from `run_command.py`) and `TransientError`. - **`run_example_command`**: raises `TransientError` instead of retrying; the `hf_max_retries` and `hf_retry_delay_s` parameters are gone. - **`pyproject.toml`**: adds `pytest-rerunfailures` to `dev-test`, and `--rerun-show-tracebacks` to `addopts`. `uv.lock` is left to the weekly relock job. - **The tests previously behind `skip_flaky_on_blackwell`**, plus `test_dsa_kv_cache_quant`: no longer skipped. - **`test_regular_state_dict[320]`**: stays skipped. It runs in the pytest process itself, so a crash would break every later test. - **`test_adapter_gradient_flow_freeze_lora_with_api`**: stays skipped. Its crash is deterministic, so a rerun would not help. - **`is_blackwell()`** in `tests/_test_utils/torch/misc.py` replaces three copies of the same GPU check. **New dependency license.** pytest-rerunfailures is MPL-2.0: weak copyleft, applying only to its own files if modified and distributed. It is used unmodified and only in the `dev-test` extra, and `tqdm`, a core dependency, is already MPL-2.0 AND MIT. Matching along the exception chain needs 16.7 (exception classes in `only_rerun` need 16.2); `~=16.7` covers both. Per `CONTRIBUTING.md`, this still needs a check with the setup codeowners. **Root cause (still open; waiting for nemo:26.10).** The crash is not from a recent commit. It happens on the Nth job a worker process runs, whichever test that is: - Repeating `test_dsa_kv_cache_quant` 40 times in one process on a 1-GPU Blackwell runner crashes on exactly repetitions 13, 26 and 39 (each crash replaces the worker). That held on every commit tried, back to before #2618, #2981 and #2744. - Repeating it on Ada never crashed (30/30). - On 2 GPUs the crash hits the 15th job, `test_homogeneous_sharded_state_dict[local-True-config5]`, which passes alone. Skipping it moves the crash to the next case. - With `CUDA_LAUNCH_BLOCKING=1`, the failing call is `cublasGemmStridedBatchedEx` (bf16) returning `CUBLAS_STATUS_INTERNAL_ERROR`. It comes from the `torch.einsum` in Megatron's `absorbed_mla.py` (`qkv_up_proj_and_rope_apply`). The PEFT test fails the same way in `cublasGemmEx`. cuBLAS is 13.5.1. - With cuBLAS/cuBLASLt debug logging on, the crash did not happen (14/14 passed), so it is timing sensitive. - Ruled out as the cause: destroying the NCCL groups in the worker teardown, and Megatron's Gloo groups. GPU memory, live CUDA tensors and process groups stay flat across jobs. We will retest on the nemo:26.10 container and drop the rerun if the crash is gone. ### Testing - `tests/unit/test_example_run_command.py`, rewritten for `TransientError`: passes in nemo:26.08. Its raising line has `ConnectionError` in a comment, so the old traceback matching would fail the non-transient case. - Rerun check in nemo:26.08 on Ada, using a throwaway test file (not committed): - A Hub error wrapped in another exception was rerun once, then passed. - An example step whose output showed "Too Many Requests" was rerun once, then passed. - A subprocess that kept printing "503 Server Error" was rerun once, then failed with `TransientError`. - An assertion error was not rerun. - With `is_blackwell()` forced on: a CUDA crash that happens once was rerun on a different worker and passed; one that happens every time was rerun once, then failed. - Collection with `is_blackwell()` forced on: all 502 `gpu_megatron` tests get the marker, and the 241 worker-pool tests also get the CUDA crash patterns. - CI on a temp branch with the Blackwell rerun (before the worker-pool filter and the Hub unification; runs 40588283353, 40588292684), 2 runs of each job on Blackwell, all green: | Job | Result per run | Reruns per run | Time | |---|---|---|---| | `gpu_megatron`, 1 GPU | 416 passed | 1 | 9-11 min | | `gpu_megatron`, 2 GPUs, `--run-manual --run-nightly` | 462 passed | 3 | 12 min | | `test_dsa_kv_cache_quant` ×40, 1 GPU | 40 passed | 0 | | An earlier round without the -6 pattern had 2 of 6 jobs red from a worker abort (and one from the unrelated `test_qkv_slicing_gqa_tp2` race, which also fails on main). - Not run locally: the example tests themselves; this PR's CI covers them. ### Before your PR is "*Ready for review*" - Is this change backward compatible?: ✅ - If you copied code from any other sources or added a new PIP dependency, did you follow guidance in `CONTRIBUTING.md`:⚠️ `pytest-rerunfailures` is MPL-2.0 (test-only); justification above, pending codeowner check - Did you write any new necessary tests?: N/A - Did you update [Changelog](https://github.com/NVIDIA/Model-Optimizer/blob/main/CHANGELOG.rst)?: N/A - Did you get Claude approval on this PR?: N/A 🤖 Generated with [Claude Code](https://claude.com/claude-code) --------- Signed-off-by: Keval Morabia <[email protected]> Co-authored-by: Claude Opus 5.5 <[email protected]>

This PR: - Bumps the Megatron-Bridge commit that CI overlays on the NeMo container (`.github/actions/megatron-from-source`, and the matching commit in `examples/megatron_bridge/README.md`) from 1d9caf7 to 0652ea7, the #6657 merge commit. Its Megatron-LM submodule moves from ede2c58 to ed9c2c8. - Adds `tests/gpu_megatron/torch/export/test_quantized_mbridge_export.py`. It quantizes a tiny model, exports it with both `export_mcore_gpt_to_hf` and `save_hf_pretrained_modelopt`, and checks that the weights and scales are bit-identical and that the configs and `quantization_config` match. The Megatron exporter runs at TP=1, since it does not gather TP shards. The bridge exports at TP=1 on one GPU (the PR runners) and TP=2 on any multi-GPU host (the 2-GPU nightly runners), which also covers gathering its sharded weights and scales. TP stays at most 2 because the tiny models have 2 KV heads. At TP=2, `input_scale` is compared with `rtol=2e-2`: calibration reduces activations across ranks in a different order, so FP8 activation amaxes differ by up to ~0.5% from TP=1. Weights and weight scales stay bit-identical. The bridge's `ignore` list must exclude exactly the unquantized linear layers; the Megatron exporter's list spells its patterns differently and may miss some (it misses Qwen3.5's `mlp.shared_expert_gate`, which is unquantized in both). Cases: NVFP4 (Llama), FP8 (Qwen3), NVFP4 MLP-only (Nemotron-H: Mamba + attention + MoE), NVFP4 MLP-only (Qwen3.5-VL-MoE: GatedDeltaNet + MoE, vision tower unquantized as in `quantize.py`). Not covered yet because the bridge export rejects them: quantized Mamba / GatedDeltaNet input projections and GPT-OSS experts (OMNIML-5978); ModelOpt's Megatron exporter also fails on GPT-OSS NVFP4. This keeps ModelOpt changes to the functional export API from silently diverging from the Megatron exporter's output in Megatron-Bridge. KV-cache export is not covered yet: Megatron-Bridge adds it once it pins a ModelOpt release with #2981 (tracked in OMNIML-6311). ### Usage ```python bridge.save_hf_pretrained_modelopt(model, export_dir) ``` ### Testing In a clean `nvcr.io/nvidia/nemo:26.08` container with the `megatron-from-source` overlay at 0652ea7 (2 GPUs), installing as the CI jobs do: - `tests/gpu_megatron` (`[hf,dev-test,dev-fla]`), including the new test: 464 passed, 44 skipped. - `tests/examples/megatron_bridge` (`[hf,puzzletron,dev-test]` plus the example requirements): 107 passed. The new test with its current cases, in the same container: 4 passed on 2 GPUs (bridge at TP=2) and 4 passed on 1 GPU. Not run: the nightly-only example tests. ### Before your PR is "*Ready for review*" Make sure you read and follow [Contributor guidelines](https://github.com/NVIDIA/Model-Optimizer/blob/main/CONTRIBUTING.md) and your commits are signed (`git commit -s -S`). …re (#3121) ### What does this PR do? Type of change: Bug fix. Support stateless constant-amax quantizers in functional KV-cache export. `use_constant_amax=True` uses a fixed range of 448 during forward without creating an `_amax` buffer. Functional capture now supplies the corresponding deployment KV scale of one for FP8 and NVFP4, including when an old calibration buffer remains. Functional capture opts into fixed-range resolution before reading calibration state, reusing the quantizer's forward range provider. The shared scale helper keeps its legacy behavior by default. The shared `TensorQuantizer.export_amax()` and legacy HF/Megatron exporter behavior remain unchanged. MX formats retain their absent global scale; constant MX KV settings cannot manufacture scalar scales. With `cpu=False`, constants follow a calibrated peer or attention tensor's device; tensorless modules fall back to CPU. Calibration, forward behavior and checkpoint buffers are unchanged. ### Usage ```python from modelopt.torch.export.quantized_weight_export import capture_kv_cache_export_state # attention has enabled constant-amax K/V quantizers, without calibration buffers. state = capture_kv_cache_export_state(attention) assert state.k_scale.item() == state.v_scale.item() == 1.0 ``` ### Testing ```bash pytest -o addopts= -q --durations=10 \ tests/unit/torch/export/test_quantized_weight_state.py \ tests/unit/torch/export/test_get_quantization.py \ tests/unit/recipe/test_nemotron_3_5_super_vl_recipe.py \ tests/unit/torch/quantization/test_tensor_quantizer_cpu.py::TestTensorQuantizerCPU::test_use_constant_amax pytest -o addopts= -q \ tests/gpu/torch/export/test_export_weight_gpu.py \ -k kv_capture_constant_scale_devices ``` - Current revision: 141 targeted CPU tests and four CUDA device cases passed on Torch 2.13 / Transformers 5.18, with zero failures, errors or skips. Injecting an unrelated warning reproduces 15 failures in the previous broad warning-count assertion; the narrowed diagnostic assertion passes. - Constant ranges now come from `TensorQuantizer._get_amax(...)` on the calibrated peer or attention tensor's device, preserving the one-element scale shape. Functional capture uses the clearer `resolve_constant_amax` opt-in; legacy callers keep their defaults. The CUDA matrix tests `cpu=False`; CPU placement remains covered by the unit suite. - All-files static hooks passed. The Torch-dependent argument-documentation hook also passed in the native environment and left its generated file unchanged. Independent aggregate source and artifact review is clean. - Earlier downstream native training qualification used this PR at `c7421a98`: Qwen3-0.6B, NVFP4 W4A16 MLP weights, FP8/NVFP4 KV caches in calibrated and constant-amax-448 modes. All four cases ran two scheduled GRPO steps and resumed the actual checkpoint for step 3. Steps 2 and 3 had finite nonzero gradients; the first scheduled step had no valid training tokens. Checkpoint inspection confirmed KV settings/scales and optimizer/sample-counter progression. That training preceded these functional-capture corrections; the results are functional evidence, not convergence or performance claims. - The shared GPU TensorQuantizer suite and broader export backends were not rerun. ### Before your PR is "Ready for review" - Is this change backward compatible?: ✅ Legacy export semantics are preserved. - If you copied code or added a new PIP dependency, did you follow `CONTRIBUTING.md`?: N/A - Did you write any new necessary tests?: ✅ Extended existing regression tests. - Did you update Changelog?: N/A — fixes functional KV capture introduced in the same unreleased cycle. - Did you get Claude approval on this PR?: N/A — independent source review is clean; public bot feedback is being addressed. ### Additional Information Follow-up to #2981. Deployment KV scale is amax/448 for both supported formats; retaining amax 448 does not mean NVFP4's internal tensor-global normalization is one. Related PR: [Megatron-Bridge #6726](NVIDIA-NeMo/Megatron-Bridge#6726). Suggested merge order: ModelOpt prerequisites, the Bridge feature with compatible dependencies, then the separate NeMo-RL integration. <!-- This is an auto-generated comment: release notes by coderabbit.ai --> <!-- coderabbit-ai-generated:v1 --> ## Summary by CodeRabbit * **Bug Fixes** * KV-cache export now uses a scale of 1.0 for K and V quantizers configured with constant amax in non-MX formats, while retaining existing scaling behavior for other quantizers. * Captured scales are placed on an appropriate device, and capturing export state leaves quantizer buffers unchanged. * Export reports an error when MXFP8 constant-amax quantizers lack calibrated scales, preventing capture without the required calibration data. * Dynamic constant-amax settings use configured scales without changing stale amax values, and constant-amax scales no longer trigger the large-scale FP8 warning. <!-- end of auto-generated comment: release notes by coderabbit.ai --> --------- Signed-off-by: Meng Xin <[email protected]>
What does this PR do?
Type of change: new feature, bug fix
Two ModelOpt-side pieces Megatron-Bridge's quantized export needs (OMNIML-5975, PR 2 of the plan in NVIDIA-NeMo/Megatron-Bridge#4804).
KV-cache export in the functional API.
quantized_weight_exportexported weights only. It now also covers the KV cache:get_kv_cache_export_spec(attention)returns an attention module's KV-cache format (FP8, NVFP4, or FP8 K with NVFP4 V), orNonewhen it is not quantized. It raises when only one of K and V is quantized, or for formats it cannot export (e.g. INT8).capture_kv_cache_export_state(attention)returns detachedk_scale/v_scale, computed exactly asexport_mcore_gpt_to_hfcomputes them (including raising FP8 scales to at least 1.0), so Megatron-Bridge exports can be compared bitwise against it.build_hf_quantization_config(..., kv_cache_formats=...)addskv_cache_quant_algo(written askv_cache_schemeinconfig.json). Unquantized caches may sit alongside one format; mixed formats raise.Megatron-Bridge owns the HF names of the scales, as it does for the weights.
MLA's fused down projections share ranges. vLLM and TensorRT-LLM fuse MLA's
q_a_projandkv_a_proj_with_mqainto one GEMM (fused_qkv_a_proj) with one scale per tensor, but Megatron-Core keeps them as two modules (linear_q_down_proj,linear_kv_down_proj), so each got its own range. Calibration now gives the pair one range:SHARED_PATTERNS(and the check that grouped ranges were synced), so they share one global range like q/k/v and gate/up.The HF exporter already unifies fused siblings at export time; Megatron-Core's q/k/v and gate/up are already single modules, so the MLA pair is the only fused-at-deployment group the Megatron paths missed.

Testing
tests/unit/torch/export/test_quantized_weight_state.py: new KV-cache capture (FP8 / NVFP4 / FP8-K-NVFP4-V, clamping), rejection and config tests.tests/unit/torch/quantization/test_shared_input.py: new CPU tests for the MLA pair: per-tensor input and weight ranges under max and MSE, the W4A8 FP8 stage, a disabled member, and restoring a checkpoint saved before the pair was grouped. The MSE and restore tests fail without their fixes.tests/unit/torch/{quantization,export}: no new failures. Run one at a time, the only failures (test_streaming_export_two_cpu_ranks,test_quantized_transformers_save_restore[Llama…],test_persistent_materialization_only_skips_unshard_for_its_layer[True]) fail the same way on main in the same container.tests/gpu_megatron/torch/quantization/plugins/test_megatron.py::test_mla_fused_down_projections_share_ranges(new): a tiny MLA GPT whose two down-projection weights have different ranges, calibrated with FP8, NVFP4 and NVFP4-MSE; the pair shares its input and weight (or static global) ranges. 3 passed in nemo:26.08 with a newer Megatron-Core; all 3 fail on main.tests/gpu_megatron/torch/export/test_unified_export_megatron.py: the two FP8-KV cases (Llama, Nemotron-H) now also check that the functional KV export writes the samek_scale/v_scaletensors andkv_cache_schemeasexport_mcore_gpt_to_hf.Both cases pass.
tests/gpu_megatron/torch/export: 137 passed. Before your PR is "Ready for review"

OMNIML-5975 (PR 2 of NVIDIA-NeMo/Megatron-Bridge#4804). Megatron-Bridge uses the KV-cache API in its quantized export (OMNIML-5976 / 5977); the MLA ranges matter for DeepSeek-style and GLM-5 exports (OMNIML-5978).
