Summary

Implements a cache SWR (Stale-when-revalidate) for specific requests (dropping request time down by 90% on hot paths)
Allows the customization of the milestone method, using variables. (planned to allow for more then just that, all stuff, and maybe embeds)
Fixed fonts to use Inter
Allowed for changing login tints
Gave login page a subtle remodel
Revamps the job of the "Sync Groups" button to instead sync roles with the roblox group (dangerous)
Implements a media API for media actions (to be used in the future more) instead of using base64 at a lot of places

also fixes formatting at a lot of places and general code cleanup

Also fixes all URLs to .cloud instead of .us

Documentation

may need to be documented that login tint is adjustable now, and that the sync groups button has a different job now.

Walkthrough

This pull request adds media-backed wall posts, configurable Discord milestone messages and login-background tint, and shared stale-while-revalidate caching. It also changes Roblox role synchronization, removes changelog endpoints, and updates domain links, session handling, and development configuration.

Changes

Wall post media

Layer / File(s) Summary
Media storage and data model
prisma/schema.prisma, prisma/migrations/*, utils/media.ts, utils/mediaCache.ts, .gitignore
The schema and migrations add media records and connect wall posts to media IDs. Utilities validate and convert images to WebP, store files and metadata, and provide retrieval, deletion, and cache helpers. .gitignore excludes .zed/ and data/media/.
Multipart uploads and wall-post creation
pages/workspace/[id]/wall.tsx, pages/api/workspace/[id]/wall/post.ts, pages/api/media/index.ts
The wall client submits content and optional image files as multipart data. The endpoints save permitted uploads and associate media metadata with wall posts.
Media retrieval, display, and cleanup
pages/api/media/[id].ts, pages/api/workspace/[id]/wall/[postId]/delete.ts, pages/workspace/[id]/wall.tsx
The media endpoint serves cached files and supports ETags. Wall posts display images through the media endpoint, and post deletion attempts to remove associated media.

Configurable Discord milestone messages

Layer / File(s) Summary
Template formatting and cron messages
utils/discord/milestoneMessage.ts, utils/crons/milestones.ts
The new utility defines the default template and supported placeholders. The milestone cron formats messages from the configured template.
Template editing, persistence, and testing
components/settings/general/discordMilestones.tsx, pages/api/workspace/[id]/settings/general/discord/milestone/*
The settings UI edits, resets, and previews message templates. The settings API validates and stores messages, and the test endpoint formats a sample using workspace configuration.

Shared caching and session handling

Layer / File(s) Summary
Cache behavior and providers
utils/cache/*
The cache adds stale-while-revalidate loading with per-key revalidation. Cache operations handle provider errors with fallback results.
Configuration and API-key caching
utils/configEngine.ts, utils/api-auth.ts, lib/withAuth.ts
Configuration and API-key reads use shared cache entries. Bearer-key authentication now calls validateApiKey.
Profile and authorization cache reads
pages/api/@me.ts, pages/api/auth/*
The profile, owner, roles, and workspace-membership endpoints use SWR loaders. Missing users in the owner and membership handlers now reach error handling as 500 responses.
Session expiry and cache invalidation
utils/session.ts
Session expiry checks include timestamps equal to the current time. Bulk session-deletion functions now clear corresponding cache entries.

Login background tint

Layer / File(s) Summary
Tint settings API and administration controls
pages/api/instance/login-background.ts, pages/api/admin/instance-config.ts, pages/index.tsx
The login-background API returns tint settings with defaults. The instance settings page loads, saves, and displays tint controls. The environment-configured GET branch includes tint values.
Login overlay and presentation
pages/login.tsx
The login page reads tint settings and conditionally displays a dark overlay. Login and signup presentation styles also change, and the ThemeToggle is removed.

Roblox role synchronization

Layer / File(s) Summary
Role replacement and API response
utils/permissionsManager.ts, pages/api/workspace/[id]/settings/roles/checkgrouproles.ts
Role synchronization replaces non-owner workspace roles with fetched Roblox roles and returns the resulting role list. The API route includes that list in its response.
Sync confirmation and result handling
components/settings/permissions/roles.tsx
The Sync Groups action opens a confirmation dialog. The component awaits the sync request, displays success or failure feedback, and prevents dialog dismissal while syncing.

Recommendation components and formatting

Layer / File(s) Summary
Validate recommendation workspace IDs
components/profile/recommendation.tsx
The profile recommendation component validates workspace IDs from the router query and URL-encodes them in eligibility and submission paths.
Recommendation UI and API formatting
components/settings/general/*, components/sidebar.tsx, pages/workspace/[id]/profile/[uid].tsx, pages/workspace/[id]/recommendations/index.tsx, pages/api/workspace/[id]/recommendations/*, pages/api/workspace/[id]/settings/general/recommendations.ts, utils/recommendations.ts
Recommendation-related components, pages, and handlers receive import-order and formatting changes. Their described request, permission, validation, and display behavior is unchanged.

Domain and repository guidance

Layer / File(s) Summary
Documentation, feedback, and contact links
.env.example, .github/CONTRIBUTING.md, .github/SECURITY.md, components/HelpFloatingButton.tsx, components/settings/instance/external.tsx, components/stickyannouncement.tsx, pages/api/workspace/[id]/announcement/index.ts, pages/index.tsx, pages/welcome.tsx, utils/logs.ts
Documentation, feedback, and security-reporting links use updated planetaryapp.cloud domains. Session-secret guidance adds generation options and warns that changing the secret ends all sessions.

Changelog API removal

Layer / File(s) Summary
Remove changelog endpoints
pages/api/changelog.js, pages/api/changelog-image/[id].ts
The changelog feed and changelog-image API endpoints are deleted.

Runtime and font setup

Layer / File(s) Summary
Next.js development and font configuration
package.json, pnpm-workspace.yaml, pages/_app.tsx, styles/globals.scss
The development script uses Webpack, the Next.js version range changes, and listed 16.4.0 packages are excluded from the minimum release-age check. Font declarations move from the app component to the global stylesheet.

Merge Risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to c2f73

Saved login tint settings will not reload for most instances, and the next save overwrites them with defaults. Several earlier concerns also remain open, including role-sync permissions and data loss. Resolve these before merging.

🟠 Major · Return the tint settings in the non-env GET response. · instance-config.ts:97-111

pages/api/admin/instance-config.ts:97-111
🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick win

Return the tint settings in the non-env GET response.

The findMany key list (lines 72-84) does not include the tint keys. The response object also omits them. The page then always falls back to true and 60. Saved tint values are never shown after reload. The next save overwrites them with these defaults.

Add 'loginBackgroundTintEnabled' and 'loginBackgroundTintOpacity' to the in list. Return them with defaults in the JSON response.

Fix invalid JSX attribute class.

React JSX uses className. The class attribute fails TypeScript checks (class is not a valid prop on <p> in React types). The text-xxs class is also not a default Tailwind utility, so it likely has no effect.

74-74: 🗄️ Data Integrity & Integration | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

setConfig writes a raw value into a key that getConfig reads as an SWREntry.

getConfig reads config:${groupid}:${key} as { value, staleAt, expiresAt }. setConfig stores the plain value under the same key. On the next read, cached.staleAt and cached.expiresAt are undefined. Both comparisons are then false, so swr falls through to a DB reload and overwrites the entry. The visible outcome is correct, but each write wastes the cache entry. If value is ever an object that contains staleAt/value fields, swr returns the wrong data. Delete the key instead of setting it.

-  await cache.set(cacheKey(groupid, key), value, cacheStaleFor);
+  await cache.del(cacheKey(groupid, key));

Narrow the session-rotation warning.

Changing SESSION_SECRET does not end authentication sessions. Session lookup uses the hashed session token, which does not depend on SESSION_SECRET. The secret encrypts session metadata such as IP addresses and user-agent strings. Changing it can make that metadata undecryptable.

Handle a JSON null request body before destructuring.

The repository does not require Zod, and empty or non-JSON requests do not generally make Next.js leave req.body undefined. However, Next.js parses a valid JSON body of null as null. Preserve Bearer authentication for routes without a workspace ID.

/api/public/v1/users/[userid] wraps its GET handler with withKey, but it has no id parameter. When a request supplies a valid Bearer API key without id, withKey passes 0 to validateApiKey. The validator rejects that value before it reads the key. The wrapper then returns 401 unless board_key happens to equal the complete Bearer header. The base implementation authenticated the key from prisma.apiKey when id was absent.

Allow validateApiKey to omit workspace validation when no workspace ID is supplied, and pass the actual optional value from withKey.

Encode the workspace ID in the save and test requests.

The load request validates and encodes router.query.id. The PATCH and POST requests use the raw value. Reuse the same validated, encoded ID for consistency. This also addresses the CodeQL SSRF finding on these requests.

Stale-time revalidation runs a slow, write-heavy loader in the background.

checkSpecificUser makes Roblox calls and upserts records for every workspace. With SWR, every request after 30 seconds starts this work in the background. The loader also runs on any cold miss, which the cache-layer race comment covers. Consider a longer freshFor value for this loader.

Make the memory-cache increment atomic.

When redis is unavailable, utils/cache/index.ts selects the shared MemoryCache instance. Its increment method yields after reading the count and before writing it. Concurrent authenticated uploads can therefore overwrite each other’s counts, pass the uploads > 20 check, and reach saveMedia. This can allow more than 20 uploads per user within 60 seconds.

Suggested fix
   async increment(key: string, ttl = 60): Promise<number> {
-    const current = await this.get<number>(key);
+    const item = this.cache.get(key);
+    const now = Date.now();
+    const current =
+      item && now < item.expires ? (item.value as number) : undefined;

     const value = (current ?? 0) + 1;

-    await this.set(key, value, ttl);
+    this.cache.set(key, {
+      value,
+      expires: now + ttl * 1000,
+    });

     return value;

Reject uploads when the rate-limit counter is unavailable.

When the cache provider returns 0 after an increment failure, uploads > 20 is false. The authenticated route then parses the request and calls saveMedia, which writes the encoded file and creates its database record. Return an unavailable response for nonpositive counter values before parsing the file.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick win

Return the tint settings from the database-backed GET path.

The usingEnvVars branch returns loginBackgroundTintEnabled and loginBackgroundTintOpacity. The database-backed branch does not request these keys on Lines 86-96 and does not return them at Lines 110-126. The admin page in pages/index.tsx falls back to true and 60 when the fields are missing. For most instances, the page therefore always shows the default tint after a reload, even when an admin saved a different value. The next save writes those defaults back, so the admin cannot keep "no tint" or a custom opacity.

Add both keys to the query. Then return them with the same type checks as the env-var branch.

Proposed fix
               "google_email_filtration",
+              "loginBackgroundTintEnabled",
+              "loginBackgroundTintOpacity",
             ],
         loginBackground:
           typeof configMap.loginBackground === "string"
             ? configMap.loginBackground
             : null,
+        loginBackgroundTintEnabled:
+          typeof configMap.loginBackgroundTintEnabled === "boolean"
+            ? configMap.loginBackgroundTintEnabled
+            : true,
+        loginBackgroundTintOpacity:
+          typeof configMap.loginBackgroundTintOpacity === "number"
+            ? configMap.loginBackgroundTintOpacity
+            : 60,
       });

Also, pages/index.tsx uses loginBackgroundTintEnabled || true. This expression always evaluates to true, so a stored false still shows as enabled. Use ?? true and ?? 60 there.
