The v0.5.0 Release Benchmarks run spent about 27 minutes installing uncached tools, then timed out during inventory compilation at the 28-minute preparation deadline. Neither measurement suite started.

Allow 90 minutes for preparation: 35 for tools, both declared 25-minute discovery deadlines, and 5 for input validation. Increase the job limit to 350 minutes while preserving the full 150-minute comparative and 90-minute exact measurement budgets. Update the regression check and release guides, including recovery when the tagged workflow needs correction.

Validation on macOS: just lint-config python-ci markdown-ci doc-check passed, including 179 Python tests. The budget regression fails against the old deadline. A fresh hosted release dispatch with the corrected tag is still needed to confirm runtime.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Release Process
    • Hosted release benchmark runs now have a 350-minute overall limit, with up to 90 minutes for preparation. This gives setup and benchmark discovery more time to complete before the suites begin.
    • Release guidance now clarifies how to handle a failed rerun: keep the release in draft, review the corrected release before trying again, and do not move published tags.
  • Documentation
    • Benchmark timing guidance now explains the preparation budget and notes that earlier runs could reach the previous setup limit before either benchmark suite started.

- Budget uncached tools and both suite inventories before release measurements.
- Preserve full comparative and exact sampling within the hosted job limit.
- Document draft-tag recovery after a workflow correction.

📝 Walkthrough

The release benchmark job timeout increased to 350 minutes, and its preparation step timeout increased to 90 minutes. Documentation and tests reflect the revised budget. Release instructions now describe rerun handling when the workflow at the release tag needs repair.

Changes: Release benchmark updates

Layer / File(s) Summary
Update and validate the benchmark time budget
.github/workflows/release-benchmarks.yml, docs/BENCHMARKING.md, docs/RELEASING.md, scripts/tests/test_release_baseline.py
The job timeout increased from 285 to 350 minutes, and the preparation timeout increased from 28 to 90 minutes. The documentation describes the revised budget, including setup allocations and the v0.5.0 inventory compilation timeout. The test checks the setup budget and retains the benchmark and remaining-job-time assertions, with a 360-minute maximum.
Specify release rerun handling
docs/RELEASING.md
The instructions state that reruns use the workflow at the release tag. They direct maintainers to keep a release as a draft while reviewing a corrected release commit and tag, and state that published tags must not be moved.
