Browser mutations currently depend on app-maintained Core action maps and generated per-plugin Server Action wrappers. This moves those mutations into Core- and plugin-owned HTTP endpoints, served through one Next.js catch-all route and called through better-call's native typed-path client.

Changes

  • Add domain-grouped Core endpoints and Teams/Discord plugin endpoints, with inferred request and JSON response types.
  • Migrate UI components to the shared client provider and native { data, error } results. Remove action maps, generated action modules, and the old action contract.
  • Centralize session resolution, request-scoped database access, strict input validation, origin checks, response cookies, and HTTP error handling. Actor IDs come from the session.
  • Keep @hackkit/next focused on runtime setup, sessions, cookies, and page guards. Plugin sync now manages page routes and the lockfile.
  • Update integration documentation and ignore local research Markdown files under docs/research/.

Validation

  • 73 tests passed across Core, config, Next, CLI, Teams, Discord, email notifications, and the web database workflows.
  • Dependency package builds and package typechecks passed.
  • Next.js production build passed against a disposable SQLite database.
  • Production HTTP runtime check passed: signup, session isolation, onboarding, Core/Teams mutations, actor spoofing rejection, permissions, and Discord routing.
  • Database workflow isolation check passed; plugin sync reproduced the staged routes and lockfile without changes.
  • Formatting, staged diff checks, and the browser bundle boundary check passed.

The PostgreSQL, MySQL, and libSQL service matrix is configured in CI and was not run locally. The production build emits a warning about a dynamic dependency in the MikroORM auth adapter's jiti import.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Added a typed HTTP client for browser-based account, event, RSVP, check-in, settings, team, and Discord operations.
    • Added an API route that handles these requests and returns clear errors for invalid or unauthorized requests.
    • Updated UI forms and plugin controls to use the client while retaining their existing success flows.
  • Documentation
    • Updated setup and integration guides to explain the HTTP-based browser workflow and plugin routes.
  • Bug Fixes
    • Improved handling of request failures, including expired sessions and network errors.

📝 Walkthrough

This change replaces browser mutation Server Actions with typed HTTP endpoints. Core defines authenticated handlers and endpoint contracts. Next.js hosts the handler, while UI and plugin components use typed clients. Plugin sync no longer generates action wrappers or records action names.

Changes: Typed HTTP mutation flow

Layer / File(s) Summary
Core HTTP contracts and client
packages/core/src/http/*, packages/core/src/plugins.ts, packages/core/src/client.ts, packages/core/package.json, packages/config/src/*
Core adds typed HTTP client and mutation contracts, public exports, and endpoint-factory support for plugins. Configuration types preserve the plugin tuple through normalization.
Core handlers and endpoints
packages/core/src/http/handler.ts, packages/core/src/http/http-server.ts, packages/core/src/http/endpoints/*, packages/core/src/http/event-pass.ts, packages/core/src/http/__tests__/*, docs/adr/0007-event-pass-qr-in-hackkit-ui.md
Core adds authenticated HTTP handling, request validation, error responses, and endpoints for user, registration, event, RSVP, role, settings, and Event Pass operations. Tests cover request behavior and client types.
Next.js host and browser wiring
packages/next/src/runtime.ts, apps/web/app/api/hackkit/[...path]/route.ts, apps/web/app/providers.tsx, apps/web/lib/runtime.ts, apps/web/scripts/test-runtime.mjs, packages/next/README.md, apps/web/README.md, docs/guides/next-integration.md, tooling/check-client-bundle.mjs, CONTEXT.md, .gitignore
Next.js exposes the handler through a POST route, and the web provider passes a typed client to the UI. Runtime and integration documentation describe the HTTP flow. Runtime checks exercise authenticated requests, while a bundle check detects server implementations in browser inputs.
UI client migration
packages/ui/src/provider.tsx, packages/ui/src/components/*, packages/ui/src/http-error.tsx, packages/ui/src/types.ts, packages/ui/src/index.ts, packages/ui/src/event-pass.ts, packages/ui/package.json
The UI provider now accepts a client. UI components call HTTP endpoints and handle API errors; action contracts and helpers are removed. Wire types represent JSON responses, and Event Pass helpers are re-exported from Core.
Plugin endpoints and sync
packages/plugin-teams/src/*, packages/plugin-teams/app/*, packages/plugin-teams/package.json, packages/plugin-teams/tsconfig.json, packages/plugin-teams/tsup.config.ts, packages/plugin-discord/src/*, packages/plugin-discord/app/*, packages/plugin-discord/package.json, packages/plugin-discord/tsconfig.json, packages/plugin-discord/tsup.config.ts, apps/web/app/hackkit-plugin-actions.ts, packages/cli/src/*, packages/cli/package.json
Teams and Discord register typed endpoints, and their components call those endpoints. The CLI no longer generates plugin action files or stores action names in the lockfile; its sync output reports routes and removed stubs.

Add CORS handling for allowed cross-origin mutations.

auth.trustedOrigins is part of the documented HTTP browser contract, and createHackkitClient accepts a custom baseURL. A JSON request from a different trusted origin triggers a preflight. This route exports only POST, and no CORS headers are added by Next configuration, middleware, or the HTTP response helper. The browser therefore stops before sending the mutation.

Add an origin-aware OPTIONS response and matching CORS headers for allowed POST responses. Derive Access-Control-Allow-Origin only from configured trusted origins. Do not use * with credentials. Preserve the existing Origin and sec-fetch-site checks.

Reject team names that become empty after trimming.

If a user submits spaces as name, this schema accepts the value. createTeamsApi then trims and persists an empty team name. Trim name before the minimum-length check.
