chore: move CLAUDE.md to AGENTS.md, and stop turbo writing to it - #171
Conversation
The repository's agent instructions now live in AGENTS.md, the tool-neutral name; the file is moved, so its history follows it. The untracked AGENTS.md it replaces was turbo's own: turbo maintains a managed block in the root AGENTS.md whenever it detects an AI agent, and would have re-added that block to the moved file on the next run. `"agentGuidance": false` in turbo.json opts out. What changed in this PR
This PR renames the repository's AI-agent guidance file from CLAUDE.md to the now-conventional AGENTS.md, and opts the repo out of Turborepo's automatic AGENTS.md management. The move was done via git mv so history follows the file, with only the title and intro sentence updated to be agent-agnostic. The agentGuidance: false setting prevents turbo (2.11.7) from re-injecting its managed block into the file on subsequent runs. This is a documentation/configuration-only change with no code impact.
Changes:
- Rename
CLAUDE.md→AGENTS.md, updating only the heading and the intro line to reference "AI coding agents" instead of "Claude Code". - Add
"agentGuidance": falsetoturbo.jsonto disable turbo's automatic AGENTS.md block injection.
| File | Description |
|---|---|
| AGENTS.md | Retitled from CLAUDE.md; intro line generalized to "AI coding agents"; body content unchanged. |
| turbo.json | Adds agentGuidance: false to stop Turborepo managing the root AGENTS.md. |
Notes from verification:
- A repo-wide search confirms the only remaining mention of
CLAUDE.mdis in.coderabbit.yaml, where it legitimately lists both filenames as documentation types to watch — not a stale path reference, so no update is needed. agentGuidance: falseis a valid rootturbo.jsonoption that opts out of the managed-block injection, consistent with turbo 2.11.7.AGENTS.mdis not gitignored, so the moved file is tracked correctly.

Summary
CLAUDE.md→AGENTS.md, moved withgit mvso history follows the file. Only its title line changed ("guidance to AI coding agents").AGENTS.mdit replaces was turbo's. Turbo (2.11.7) keeps a managed block in the rootAGENTS.mdwhenever it detects an AI agent, and its docs say it re-adds that block after removal. Left alone, it would have injected the block into the moved file on the next run."agentGuidance": falseinturbo.jsonopts out. I checked it: after a turbo run,AGENTS.mdcontains no turborepo block..coderabbit.yamlalready names both files, and nothing else in the repo referencesCLAUDE.md.No code change. No changeset.
