Fixes #8631

Note: This PR was developed with the assistance of an AI coding agent under human review. Maintainers: please apply the llm-generated label.

Problem

Several live code examples and the tools table in the docs still reference tools that no longer exist in crewai-tools, so readers who copy the examples get an ImportError on the first line:

  • CodeInterpreterTool — removed from crewai-tools (the docs themselves say so in concepts/agents.mdx and the deprecation banner on tools/ai-ml/codeinterpretertool.mdx), yet it is still imported and instantiated in the "Combining Capabilities" example in concepts/agent-capabilities.mdx and the "Skills + Tools" example in concepts/skills.mdx, and still listed as an available tool in the concepts/tools.mdx table.
  • WikipediaTools — no Wikipedia tool exists anywhere in lib/crewai-tools/src (nor in the tools table), yet concepts/agents.mdx "Here's how to add tools to an agent" imports and instantiates it.

Verified against main:

$ grep -r "class CodeInterpreterTool\|class WikipediaTools" lib/crewai-tools/src/  ->  no matches
$ python -c "from crewai_tools import CodeInterpreterTool"  ->  ImportError
$ python -c "from crewai_tools import WikipediaTools"       ->  ImportError

What changed

Removed the stale references from the live docs/edge concept pages (languages en, ko, pt-BR, ar). The final diff contains 16 files; frozen docs/v1.15.30 snapshots are excluded:

  • concepts/agent-capabilities.mdx: drop CodeInterpreterTool from the import and the tools=[...] list.
  • concepts/skills.mdx: same.
  • concepts/agents.mdx: drop WikipediaTools from the import, the instantiation, and the tools=[search_tool, wiki_tool] list.
  • concepts/tools.mdx: remove the CodeInterpreterTool row from the available-tools table (consistent with the removal notes elsewhere in the same docs).

Untouched on purpose:

  • tools/ai-ml/codeinterpretertool.mdx, which is a dedicated deprecated-tool page with an explicit deprecation banner.
  • The PGSearchTool table row and its page (its page marks it "under development" rather than removed, so removal is a maintainer call).

Verification

  • The changed live examples under docs/edge/{en,ko,pt-BR,ar}/concepts no longer instantiate the removed tools. The versioned documentation snapshots remain outside this PR.
  • The edited examples now import only tools that exist in lib/crewai-tools/src/crewai_tools (SerperDevTool, FileReadTool).
  • Docs-only change; no library code touched.

Note

Low Risk
Documentation-only edits to example imports and a tools table; no runtime or library code changes.

Overview
Updates live docs/edge concept pages (en, ko, pt-BR, ar) so copy-paste examples match what crewai-tools actually exports.

CodeInterpreterTool is dropped from the "Combining Capabilities" and "Skills + Tools" Python samples (imports and tools=[...]), and its row is removed from the available-tools table in concepts/tools.mdx. That aligns those pages with existing deprecation/removal notes elsewhere in the same docs.

WikipediaTools is removed from the "add tools to an agent" example in concepts/agents.mdx, leaving SerperDevTool as the sole illustrated tool.

Versioned doc snapshots and the dedicated deprecated codeinterpretertool.mdx page are unchanged.

PR summary: Documentation-only change that removes references to tools no longer present in `crewai-tools` (`CodeInterpreterTool`, `WikipediaTools`) from copy-paste examples and the available-tools table, mirrored across both doc versions and all four locales, so the snippets no longer fail on import.

Review summary

Reviewed all 32 changed files in the diff. Every one is a documentation file under docs/edge and docs/v1.15.30 (locales en, ko, pt-BR, ar), and every hunk is a deletion of a stale, non-existent crewai_tools import, a tool instantiation, a tools-list entry, or a single row in the available-tools table. No executable source, configuration, dependency manifest, or CI workflow is touched, so the change introduces no new input path, sink, credential, or trust-boundary modification. No security issues found.

The docs/edge edits are the right fix. They drop CodeInterpreterTool and WikipediaTools from the copy-paste examples and the tools table in en, ar, ko, and pt-BR, and they leave the deprecation page alone.

Please drop every change under docs/v1.15.30. Those trees are frozen release snapshots and should not be edited in this pull request.

Also rebase onto main. This branch is behind.

Both points addressed — 14163bc.

1. Dropped every docs/v1.15.30 change (16 files)

Confirmed against the diff before touching it: the PR had 32 files, 16 of them under docs/v1.15.30/
(the same four concepts/ pages across en, ar, ko, pt-BR). All 16 are reverted, so the PR is
now 16 files, all under docs/edge/.

The rule, which I read before reverting:

  • AGENTS.md → "Changing Docs", item 2: "Do not modify files under docs/v*/. Those are frozen
    release snapshots managed by devtools."
  • DOCS_TRANSLATIONS.md, Step 1: "Only process *.mdx under docs/edge/en/. Do not edit
    docs/v*/ snapshots."

2. Rebased onto main

Replayed onto c5f996ab6. No conflicts — the five commits that landed since the branch point touch
only lib/ sources and tests. The branch is now 0 behind / 2 ahead of main:

$ git rev-list --left-right --count origin/main...HEAD
0       2

Since a rebase rewrites history, pushing it needed --force-with-lease against my own fork branch
(rwzdk:docs/remove-nonexistent-tools-from-examples); upstream was not touched.

Verification

$ gh pr diff 8633 -R crewAIInc/crewAI --name-only | grep -c "^docs/v"
0
$ gh pr diff 8633 -R crewAIInc/crewAI --name-only | wc -l
16

Re-checked the premise of the docs/edge edits against the package itself rather than trusting the
issue report:

$ grep -rn "CodeInterpreterTool\|WikipediaTool" lib/crewai-tools/src/crewai_tools/__init__.py
(no output)
$ ls lib/crewai-tools/src/crewai_tools/tools/ | grep -i "code_interpreter\|wikipedia"
NO code_interpreter/wikipedia tool dirs

The imports the snippets keep after the deletion do resolve, so the examples still copy-paste:
SerperDevTool and FileReadTool each appear in crewai_tools/__init__.py. The deprecation prose in
concepts/agents.mdx ("CodeInterpreterTool has been removed from crewai-tools. Use … E2B or Modal")
is deliberately left intact, as you noted.

Mintlify (repo pins [email protected] in .github/workflows/docs-broken-links.yml; there is no
package.json/justfile under docs/) — installed that exact pin and ran mint validate over a
scratch copy built with the CI's own prune step (keep edge + the default version, prune other v*),
which is 1,535 pages including all 16 changed files:

$ mint validate --no-telemetry
success build validation passed # exit 0

Two honest caveats on that:

  • mint validate does not pass on a pristine tree, for a reason unrelated to this PR:
    edge/ko/tools/ai-ml/ragtool.mdx (and its v1.15.30 copy) has a frontmatter parse error at line 1
    col 13 — an unterminated backtick in description:. It fails identically at main, so I quarantined
    those two pages to get a clean signal on everything else. Separate fix if you want it.
  • Parsing every python fence in the 16 changed files with ast gives 157 fences, of which 3 raise
    SyntaxError: unterminated string literal. Those 3 are in concepts/tools.mdx (lines 54 / 52 / 53
    for en / ko / pt-BR), and they fail at the identical line numbers on origin/main, so they are
    pre-existing illustrative snippets, not something this change introduced.

Prepared with an AI coding agent.

Correction: this comment previously described the CrewBase/hooks changes from #8632, which do not belong to this PR. The relevant response for #8633 is the removed-tools update above. The current diff contains only the 16 live docs/edge/{en,ar,ko,pt-BR}/concepts pages; the frozen versioned snapshots have been reverted. The PR description now matches that scope.

AGENTS.md and DOCS_TRANSLATIONS.md both forbid editing docs/v*/ trees, which
are release snapshots managed by devtools. Reverts all 16 docs/v1.15.30 files
so the fix lands on docs/edge only.
