KSail helps developers create Kubernetes clusters (groups of machines that run applications) and deploy applications from one command-line tool. It bundles tools for trying Kubernetes locally, then working with cloud providers or an existing cluster. Kubernetes runs applications in containers: packages of application code and the software it needs.
On Linux or an Apple Silicon Mac, open a shell with curl, tar and
sha256sum (Linux) or shasum (macOS) available:
curl -fsSL https://github.com/devantler-tech/ksail/releases/latest/download/install.sh | shThe installer checks that the download matches the published release and prints its installation directory.
Follow its PATH instruction if needed, so your shell can find ksail.
Other installation options include Homebrew and
Windows downloads.
From a directory where you want a new project:
ksail --help
mkdir ksail-first
cd ksail-first
ksail project init --name ksail-first --distribution Vanilla --provider DockerExpect an initialization success message and ksail.yaml, kind.yaml and k8s/kustomization.yaml
in this directory, plus settings for caching container downloads and a .devcontainer folder for optional editor setup.
This step only writes project files; it needs no Docker (the program that runs local containers) or cloud account.
--name names the cluster, not an output directory.
Install and start Docker Engine or Docker Desktop. From the same ksail-first directory:
ksail cluster create
ksail cluster info
ksail cluster delete --name ksail-first --provider DockerCreation downloads container images (packaged applications), uses your computer's memory and storage,
and writes connection settings so Kubernetes tools can reach your cluster.
Check the cluster information, then delete this trial and its applications when finished.
In your terminal, review the displayed cluster name and type yes to confirm deletion.
Project files and cached downloads remain available for reuse.
Cloud providers have separate credentials, setup and costs.
