| const mjmlEdited = | ||
| values.mjml_content !== formik.initialValues.mjml_content || | ||
| historyVersion !== ""; |
There was a problem hiding this comment.
@tomrndom Confirmed, and it's a regression against master. Master's compile effect ran on the seeded default_mjml_content when a new template mounted. Here mjmlEdited stays false until the MJML is typed into, so html_content stays empty: "Show HTML" opens a blank editor, and saving the untouched sample sends html_content: "". I checked that the real mjml-browser compiles the sample cleanly with the same strict options (0 errors), so skipping it isn't protecting anything.
Suggested fix: treat a new template as edited:
const mjmlEdited =
!entity.id ||
values.mjml_content !== formik.initialValues.mjml_content ||
historyVersion !== "";Regression test for email-template-form.test.js. It fails on the current code and passes with the fix:

const newEntity = { ...mjmlEntity, id: 0, mjml_content: "", html_content: "" };

await act(async () => {
fireEvent.click(screen.getByText("emails.display_html"));
});

});| } catch (err) { | ||
| return { htmlContent: null, error: err }; | ||
| } | ||
| }, [values.mjml_content, historyVersion, mjmlEdited, isChildTemplate]); |
There was a problem hiding this comment.
@tomrndom Confirmed. mjmlCompileResult returns null while mjmlEditor is false, and since mjmlEditor isn't a dependency, it doesn't recompute when switching back. The stale mjmlRenderError therefore survives.
Repro: pick an MJML history version that doesn't compile (Save disables), switch to HTML, pick "Current version", switch back to MJML. The stored MJML is restored but Save stays disabled. The same stale error also replaces the preview while in HTML mode, because renderPreviewBody doesn't check the mode.
Suggested fix: add mjmlEditor to the memo deps (the mjmlEdited guard already keeps unchanged content from compiling, so the "bare mode switch" case is still covered and the existing test for it keeps passing), and gate the preview error on the mode:
}, [values.mjml_content, historyVersion, mjmlEdited, isChildTemplate, mjmlEditor]);if (mjmlEditor && mjmlRenderError?.message) {Please also drop the "mjmlEditor is deliberately not a dep" line from the comment above.

| queryTemplates(input, (templates) => { |
There was a problem hiding this comment.
@tomrndom Confirmed. queryTemplates ends in .catch(fetchErrorHandler) without calling callback, so a failed search leaves loading true forever. Clearing the input doesn't reset it either.
Suggested fix: settle the callback in the action rather than adding an error callback. queryTemplates is also the queryFunction of the email log GridFilter (email-log-list-page.helpers.js:50), which only knows (input, callback), and settling with [] keeps that contract for both callers:
.catch((err) => {
fetchErrorHandler(err);
callback([]);
});…and in handleInputChange, reset loading on clear (see the requestSeq change in the next thread):
if (!input) {
requestSeq.current += 1;
setOptions([]);
setLoading(false);
return;
}Regression tests. Both fail on the current code and pass with the fix:
// src/actions/__tests__/email-actions.test.js
it("settles the callback with no options when the search request fails", async () => {
jest.useFakeTimers();
global.fetch = jest.fn(() => Promise.reject(new Error("network down")));

@tomrndom Confirmed. queryTemplates is debounced, but two runs more than 500 ms apart are separate fetches, and whichever lands last wins, even if it's the older search. A response that arrives after the input was cleared also repopulates the list. Same idea as the sequenced() guard, scoped to the input instance:
const requestSeq = useRef(0);
const fetchOptions = (input) => {
requestSeq.current += 1;
const mySeq = requestSeq.current;
setLoading(true);
queryTemplates(input, (templates) => {
// a newer search (or a clear) superseded this one

| if (value) { | ||

| ? { value, label: value } | ||
| : { value: String(value.id ?? ""), label: value.identifier ?? "" }; | ||
| } |
There was a problem hiding this comment.
@tomrndom Confirmed: with a template already selected, you can't search for a different one. selectedOption is rebuilt as a new object on every render, and MUI 6.5.0's useAutocomplete resets the input text whenever the value reference changes, even while the input is focused (useAutocomplete.js:180-190: valueChange = value !== previousProps.value → resetInputValue(null, value, 'reset')). Each keystroke triggers setLoading / setOptions → re-render → new object → the typed text snaps back to the selected label and filters the fetched options out.
I reproduced it in both modes: with welcome_email selected, clearing the input and typing news leaves the input at "welcome_email" and newsletter never shows. This affects every consumer that edits an existing value: the parent picker here, the three selection-plan email template pickers, and the email flow event form. The old AsyncSelect didn't have this.
Suggested fix: memoize the option on its inputs:
// keep the reference stable between renders: MUI Autocomplete resets the
// typed text whenever the value reference changes
const selectedOption = useMemo(() => {
if (!value) return null;
return plainValue
? { value, label: value }
: { value: String(value.id ?? ""), label: value.identifier ?? "" };
}, [value, plainValue]);Regression test for src/components/inputs/__tests__/email-template-input.test.js. It fails on the current code and passes with the fix:
it.each([
{ mode: "object", plainValue: false, value: { id: 42, identifier: "welcome_email" } },
{ mode: "plainValue", plainValue: true, value: "welcome_email" }
])(
"keeps the typed search when a template is already selected ($mode)",
