Bug: most query parameters are silently discarded #198

Closed

Description

@bdholder

When passing a URI containing query parameters, e.g. db2+ibm_db://username:password@host/database?ConnectTimeout=5, most parameters, including ConnectTimeout, are silently discarded. The error occurs in the create_connect_args method.

I've fixed the issue in my local fork of the package. I'm happy to open a pull request with the fix, but I would need to know the minimum targeted Python and SQLAlchemy versions as well as expectations on tests.

    Hi @bdholder ,

    Thanks for reporting this and for preparing a fix, much appreciated.

    Please go ahead and open a PR.

    Current compatibility targets are:

    • Python: 3.9 through 3.14
    • SQLAlchemy: 0.7.3 through 2.0.x

    At the moment, we don’t have a dedicated test suite in this project; historically validation has been done against SQLAlchemy’s test suite.

    So for this PR, please include a reproducible test script that clearly shows:

    1. the issue with query parameters being dropped (for example ConnectTimeout), and
    2. the corrected behavior with your fix.

    That will be sufficient for review.
