Summary

  • Object > Create > pgTimeTable Chain... on a server is now enabled only when the server has a pgTimeTable Chains collection node, which the backend adds only when timetable.chain exists in the maintenance database and is usable by the current role. The menus are refreshed when that collection is added to the tree, as the server is selected before its children load.
  • The chain endpoints now return a 400 with a clear message in that case, instead of a 500 with relation "timetable.chain" does not exist. The existing check from backend_supported() is shared through has_pgt_chain_access().

Test plan

  • New test_pgt_chain_not_available.py (mocked, plus an unmocked case that runs only when pg_timetable is absent)
  • New Jest spec pgt_chain_menus_spec.js
  • Existing pg_timetable tests in CI (pg_timetable is installed there)

Closes #10694

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • The pgTimeTable Chain creation option is available only when the server is connected and the Chains collection is present in the server tree.
    • Chain creation and listing report when pgTimeTable is unavailable or the required access is missing. If an availability check fails because of a server error, that error is displayed instead.
    • Menu availability updates after the server tree refreshes and the Chains collection becomes available, so the option reflects the current server state.

…ble is not available. pgadmin-org#10694

The create menu on the server was offered even when the maintenance
database has no timetable schema, and saving then failed with a raw
"relation timetable.chain does not exist" error and HTTP 500. The menu is
now enabled only when the server has a pgTimeTable Chains collection node,
which the backend adds only when pg_timetable is usable, and the chain
endpoints now return a clear 400 error in that case instead of a 500.

Walkthrough

The change adds backend checks for pg_timetable Chain schema access and required privileges. It returns distinct errors for query failures and unavailable access. The server-level create menu now depends on connection and collection state.

Chain availability

Layer / File(s) Summary
Backend access gate
web/pgadmin/browser/server_groups/servers/pg_timetable/__init__.py, web/pgadmin/browser/server_groups/servers/pg_timetable/tests/test_pgt_chain_not_available.py
A shared check verifies the schema, relation, and required privileges. Backend support and decorated views use the check. Query errors return HTTP 500; unavailable access returns HTTP 400. Tests cover these responses.
Server create menu
web/pgadmin/browser/server_groups/servers/pg_timetable/static/js/pgt_chain.js, web/pgadmin/browser/static/js/browser.js, web/regression/javascript/browser/pgt_chain_menus_spec.js
The create menu requires a connected server with a Chains collection. Adding that collection or refreshing a tree node updates menu enablement. Tests cover the enable condition and refresh behavior.

The server-level pgTimeTable Chain menu is disabled when pg_timetable is unavailable, and the chain endpoints return a clear 400 instead of a raw 500. No actionable merge-blocking risk remains.

Full details: Linked Issues check

Explanation

[#10694] The server create menu requires a connected server and a coll-pgt_chain child. Menu refreshes account for tree loading and refresh. The shared access check guards the collection and chain endpoints. Unavailable schema or privileges produce HTTP 400 with a clear message. Python and Jest tests cover the endpoint and menu conditions.

Full details: Out of Scope Changes check

Explanation

[#10694] The access check, endpoint guard, menu changes, tree refresh, and tests support the issue. The general tree-refresh menu update keeps menu state current after a refresh. No unrelated change is established by the available evidence.

Full details: Docstring Coverage

Explanation

Docstring coverage is 100.00% which is sufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff with cyclomatic complexity of at least 2. Documentation-only edits and deletions within surviving functions are included; unchanged diff context and fully deleted functions are excluded. Analyzed 7 functions across 5 files.

USAGE is evaluated as a condition, not merely returned in the EXISTS subquery’s

has_schema_privilege, and treat a missing schema as no access; add coverage for
a role with chain table privileges but no schema USAGE.

pgBrowser.enable_disable_menus after the tree refresh completes, so the selected
server’s menu state reflects whether its coll-pgt_chain collection is present;
preserve the existing refresh and loader flow.
