fix(limits): check and create plan-limited resources atomically - #480
Plan-limited resources (contact books, domains, webhooks, team seats) are now limit-checked and created in a single transaction, serialized per team and resource type with a PostgreSQL transaction advisory lock (the same approach auth.ts already uses for self-hosted registration).
LimitService.lockPlanLimit(tx, teamId, resource) takes pg_advisory_xact_lock(namespace, teamId). It does nothing when not in cloud mode, the same as the limit checks.
checkDomainLimit / checkContactBookLimit / checkTeamMemberLimit / checkWebhookLimit take an optional client so they can count inside the transaction. The default is db, so the limits router is unchanged.
createContactBook: lock + check + create run in a transaction. If the caller passes a transaction (public API POST /v1/contactBooks), the function uses it instead of opening a new one.
createWebhook: lock + check + domain validation + create run in a transaction.
createDomain: lock + check + ses.addDomain + insert run in one transaction (timeout 30s).
acceptTeamInvite: seats are created here, so it now takes the lock, checks the team member limit, and creates the team user and deletes the invite atomically.
Why
Each limit was checked with a count(), and the resource was created in a separate query afterwards. Concurrent requests could all pass the check before any of them inserted, so a team could end up over its plan limit.
Trade-offs
Domains: the SES identity has to exist before the row (publicKey comes from it), so the SES calls happen while the lock is held. Requests rejected by the limit never reach SES. The cost is that one DB connection stays open for the SES round trips, and only concurrent domain creates for the same team wait on each other. An SES identity can still be orphaned if the insert fails after SES succeeds, as before this change.
Team invites:createTeamInvite is unchanged. It counts teamUser rows, which creating an invite doesn't change, so a lock there wouldn't help. The limit is now enforced where seats are created (acceptTeamInvite). As a result, a team that is over its seat limit (for example, invites sent while on a paid plan, then downgraded) can no longer accept pending invites.
Lock waits count toward Prisma's interactive-transaction timeout (5s default, 30s for domains). Waits only happen between concurrent creates of the same resource type for the same team.
No schema changes or migrations.
How tested
New/updated unit tests check that the lock is taken inside the transaction before the check, that the check and the create both use the transaction client, and that requests over the limit don't create anything (or call SES):
Added contact-book-service.integration.test.ts: 10 concurrent creates on a FREE team should give exactly 1 row. Not run: test infra wasn't up locally, and the usesend-js SDK has to be built first, because mailer.ts imports it.
Summary by CodeRabbit
Bug Fixes
Plan limits are now checked consistently when accepting team invitations or creating contact books, domains, and webhooks.
Concurrent requests are less likely to exceed a team’s plan limits.
Requests that exceed a limit are rejected before the corresponding membership or resource is created.
Plan-limit checks now accept transaction clients, and cloud mode uses resource-specific advisory locks. Contact-book, domain, webhook, and team-invite creation now perform their limit checks and writes in transactions. Added tests cover lock behavior, transaction use, limit rejection, and concurrent contact-book creation.

Explanation
The title "fix(limits): check and create plan-limited resources atomically" matches the main change. The PR wraps plan-limit checks and resource creation for contact books, webhooks, domains, and accepted team invites in transactions. Each transaction takes a PostgreSQL advisory lock per team and resource type, so concurrent requests cannot pass the same count-and-create race. The title names the primary change and the conventional-commit scope. It does not list every resource, which is acceptable for a title.

Delete the SES identity when the database transaction fails after addDomain succeeds.
ses.addDomain runs inside db.$transaction, before tx.domain.create. If the insert, the commit, or the 30-second timeout fails after SES has accepted the identity, the database row is rolled back but the SES identity remains. The lock wait also counts against the 30-second timeout. On timeout, the SES calls can still be in progress when the transaction is rolled back, so the identity can be created after the rollback.
A retry for the same domain name then sends CreateEmailIdentity for an identity that already exists. The SES call fails, and addDomain has no handler for that error. The user cannot add the domain until someone deletes the identity in SES.
Delete the identity only when this call created it. Set identityRequest before the SES call and await it in the catch. This also covers a timeout that completes SES work after the rollback. Do not delete when addDomain rejects, because that rejection can mean the identity already existed. emitDomainEvent stays outside the catch, so a failure after commit does not remove a committed domain's identity.

Resolve the team before opening the resource transaction.
On a cache miss, getTeamCached calls refreshTeamCache, which uses the global db client. A limit check running inside a transaction therefore holds its transaction connection while requesting a second pool connection. Concurrent requests can exhaust the pool and cause the lock holder to stall until a transaction or pool timeout. Resolve the team before opening the transaction or pass the resolved team into the limit check. Apply this to all four limit checks.

Pass tx to the domain check. It currently reads through db.
assertDomainsBelongToTeam calls db.domain.findMany. This runs inside the db.$transaction callback, so it uses a second pool connection while the transaction holds the first. It also does not take part in the transaction.
Concurrent createWebhook calls for one team make this worse. Waiters hold connections while they wait for the advisory lock. The lock holder then waits for a free connection to run the domain query. The calls stall until the transaction or pool timeout fires. This happens only when domainIds is non-empty.
Update webhook-service.unit.test.ts as well. The creation tests currently assert mockDb.domain.findMany. They must mock and assert domain.findMany on the transaction client instead.
Based on learnings: "reads and writes intended to participate in the transaction must use that handle; using the original database handle can bypass the transaction".
