Cuts dependabot.yaml from 15 entries to 3, and new plugins no longer need to be added to it.

What changes

  • Composer: the six per-plugin entries become one with directories: ["/plugins/*"]. Every plugin folder has a composer.json. The settings are unchanged: weekly, majors ignored, and the deps: / chore(deps-dev): prefixes.
  • Docker: removes the eight entries, because none of them can do anything:
    • The three Dockerfiles use FROM wordpress:${WP_VERSION:-6.9}-php${PHP_VERSION:-8.2}. Dependabot can't update a tag built from variables.
    • The five "docker-compose" entries point the docker ecosystem at plugin root folders, but that ecosystem reads Dockerfiles, not docker-compose.yml. The only external compose image is mariadb:10/10.2, a major-version tag, and majors are ignored anyway.
    • Dependabot hasn't opened a single Docker PR since the entries were added in June.
  • GitHub Actions: the entry now covers /.github/actions/* as well as the workflows. Actions used inside the composite actions (shivammathur/setup-php, actions/cache, actions/upload-artifact, and so on) weren't getting updates before.

Testing

The file parses, and the globs match today's folders: 6 plugins and 4 composite actions. GitHub validates the config once it lands on main; if a glob is rejected, it shows on the Dependabot page under Insights → Dependency graph → Dependabot.

AI assistance: Yes

Used for: Assisting with consolidating the Dependabot config and checking which entries ever did anything.

- Replace the six per-plugin composer entries with one /plugins/* glob, so new plugins
are covered without editing this file.
- Remove the eight docker entries. The Dockerfiles build their tag from ARGs, which
Dependabot can't update, and the docker ecosystem doesn't read docker-compose.yml.
None of them has opened a PR.
- Scan the composite actions in .github/actions too, not just the workflows.
