5-5: 🎯 Functional Correctness | 🔵 Trivial | 💤 Low valueModule-level
diagramIdcounter can collide across module instances.
diagramIdis local to this module. If two bundles load the module, both producebn-diagram-0. Two inline SVGs on one page then share the same IDs. This breaksaria-labelledbyandurl(#...)references. The ID reset also happens on every module reload during HMR. Consider adding a random or per-editor component to the prefix. This is a low-probability edge case.-let diagramId = 0; +let diagramId = 0; +const instanceId = Math.random().toString(36).slice(2, 8); ... - idPrefix: `bn-diagram-${diagramId++}`, + idPrefix: `bn-diagram-${instanceId}-${diagramId++}`,Also applies to: 19-19

flow by catching thrown errors and converting them to the existing result error

stale-result guard and setError behavior so thrown rendering failures clear or
replace the preview error state instead of becoming unhandled rejections.

…pstream theming The diagram block of BlockNote draws with Mermaid's default theme and cannot redraw a diagram when the client theme changes, so the notes editor was remounted on every switch to draw the diagrams again in the new theme, which reset the undo history. Until BlockNote renders diagrams with theme-aware CSS (TypeCellOS/BlockNote#3219), draw them in the light theme on a light card, also in dark mode, with their stylesheet kept out of DarkReader. Nothing redraws on a theme switch and the editor keeps its undo history.

Replace Mermaid with Pele for smaller bundles, browserless SVG export, and diagrams that match the editor theme. Mermaid source and Markdown interchange stay unchanged; diagram layout differs.
Before / after
Same documents and BlockNote themes, rendered in real Mantine editors. No diagram-specific color overrides. Click images to enlarge.
Bundle size
Measured with Bun 1.4.4
Bun.build: identical minified React editor fixtures, Mermaid 11.16.0 versus Pele 1.12.0, gzip level 9 per chunk. Overhead subtracts the plain editor. All chunks includes lazy features; initial excludes dynamic imports. JavaScript only, not a full-page download; kB = 1,000 bytes.Server-side rendering
SVG diagrams render without a DOM or headless browser. DOCX and Typst/PDF exports work on the server by default, with real browserless export tests, including PDF/UA-1 compilation. DOCX requires an SVG-capable reader; ODT/email still need browser canvas or a supplied server rasterizer.
Theming
Diagrams follow BlockNote's light, dark, and custom themes through CSS variables, including text, surfaces, outlines, and chart colors. Mantine/Ariakit use BlockNote tokens; Shadcn uses its semantic/chart tokens. Theme changes recolor existing SVGs without rerendering. Standalone exports use their own palette.
