DINO-1164: Update maven wrapper. Remove LASS calls from main backend and replaced it with LAS. the main backend no longer tries to reconcile the token within itself anymore. CI receives an empty shell so that we dont have to juggle with authentication in C - #1065
All AI comments are fixed or resolved before requesting review
CI is green
Database changes follow the db repo rules, or this PR does not change the database. Comment /migrate to apply migrations to staging (Codebloom team only).
I QA'd this in dev and attached screenshots below. If staging could not be checked, say why.
Authentication now retrieves session credentials through the updated service and supports refresh requests. CI runs can use empty credentials.
Bug Fixes
Requests handle missing authentication values and absent submission details more safely.
Chores
Updated Maven tooling and build configuration. Removed the previous browser-based login and legacy authentication flow; gRPC generation now targets the updated authentication service.
The backend replaces its LeetCode auth-stealer flow with a gRPC authentication service for token retrieval and refresh. It updates LeetCode client behavior and related tests, adds generated service bindings, and upgrades the Maven wrapper to version 3.3.4.
The las-gen target and Maven build generate Java and gRPC sources for the LeetCode authentication service. The Python generator no longer generates Java sources.
Authentication messages and RPC bindings lib/leetcode-auth-service/src/main/java/org/patinanetwork/codebloom/grpc/leetcodeauth/v1/*, lib/leetcode-auth-stealer-service/src/main/java/org/patinanetwork/codebloom/grpc/leetcode/auth/v1/*
Generated messages define token and CSRF values, refresh requests and responses, and getToken and refreshToken RPCs. The prior auth-stealer generated bindings are removed.
Authentication service and gRPC client configuration src/main/java/org/patinanetwork/codebloom/common/leetcode/auth/*, src/main/java/org/patinanetwork/codebloom/config/*, src/main/resources/application.yml
The backend adds CI and default authentication-service implementations and optional credential fields. The gRPC client configuration changes to the new service and its host, TLS, and timeout settings.
Backend consumers and authentication-flow removal src/main/java/org/patinanetwork/codebloom/api/admin/AdminController.java, src/main/java/org/patinanetwork/codebloom/common/leetcode/LeetcodeClientImpl.java, src/main/java/org/patinanetwork/codebloom/playwright/PlaywrightClient.java, src/main/java/org/patinanetwork/codebloom/scheduled/auth/*, src/test/java/org/patinanetwork/codebloom/*
The admin endpoint and LeetCode client call the new authentication service. Cookie construction uses available optional credentials, and refresh calls replace cookie reloads. The auth-stealer and direct/GitHub login flows are removed; related tests are updated or deleted.

The wrapper configuration and scripts move to Apache Maven Wrapper 3.3.4, with optional SHA-256 validation. The old Java downloader source is removed.

Patina-Network/codebloom#1066: It removes Playwright from the backend and overlaps with this PR’s removal of the Playwright-based LeetCode login flow.
Patina-Network/codebloom#1049: It changes the auth-stealer code that this PR deletes and also changes the upstream service path.

Merge Risk: Moderate · up to f8d02
LeetCode authentication may fail if LAS is unreachable, and remote credential traffic needs protection. Confirm deployment and transport safeguards before merging.
Security architecture risk: Moderate · up to f8d02
The migration makes authenticated LeetCode requests depend directly on the authentication service and Redis. Temporary credential-read failures now produce anonymous requests instead of using previously loaded credentials. Refresh handling has useful failure-containment controls, but deployment compatibility and protection of the credential service remain unverified.
Retained concerns
Medium · reliability · observed: The migration removes the backend-local credential fallback. Every credential-read exception now becomes empty credentials, causing otherwise healthy LeetCode requests to run anonymously during LAS or Redis read outages. Retaining credentials inside LAS protects refresh failures, but does not contain failures of the new remote read dependency.
Security review details
Security Blast Radius
inferred — The credential authority is a shared LeetCode session, not a per-request application-user identity. Unauthorized access to the credential RPC could expose that session and its LeetCode authority. The available evidence does not establish external reachability or broader tenant, cloud, or infrastructure privileges.
Trust Boundaries and Controls
observed — LAS credential handlers ignore caller request identity, and the inspected server setup supplies no RPC authentication layer. These handlers and server setup already exist at the full PR base. The backend retains configurable plaintext transport, so deployment isolation and identity controls remain important unknowns rather than a proven PR-introduced exposure.
Resilience and Maintainability Implications
observed — The existing credential owner publishes token, CSRF, and timestamp in one Redis HSET after successful authentication. Refresh failures leave stored credentials intact. Refresh initiation uses an expiring distributed lock, unlock checks ownership, and scheduled checks provide another initiation path. These mechanisms contain normal refresh failures but do not provide a backend fallback when credential reads fail.
Hardening Proposals
proposed — Establish explicit deployment controls limiting LAS credential-read and refresh authority to intended workloads, including authenticated transport or equivalent enforced isolation. Define a separate policy for service unavailability versus genuinely absent credentials, with bounded recovery for authentication-dependent work.

Full details: Title check
Explanation
The title names the main change: the Maven wrapper update and the move from LASS calls to LAS in the main backend. The title does not mention the removal of the stealer classes or the CI empty-shell auth stub, but those are secondary aspects. The title is 256 characters, which is long for a title, but it remains a single sentence that matches the changeset.
Full details: Description check
Explanation
The description contains only the unmodified template. The 'Description of changes' section is empty. The checklist items are all unchecked. The screenshot sections contain only placeholder comments. The author provided no summary of the changes, no rationale for replacing LASS with LAS, no note on the Maven wrapper update, and no QA or staging information. The changeset is large and includes a new gRPC client, deleted auth classes, and a CI auth stub, so the missing context is material to review.
Resolution
Fill in the 'Description of changes' section. Cover these points: (1) the move from the LASS gRPC calls to the LAS service, including the new leetcodeauth.v1 package, refresh() behavior, and the grpc.leetcode-auth-service configuration; (2) the Maven wrapper upgrade from Takari 0.5.6 to Apache Maven Wrapper 3.3.4 and Maven 3.9.16; (3) the removal of the in-process auth stealer and its scheduled reconciliation; (4) the empty CI authentication service used under the ci profile. Then tick the checklist items that apply. Add the dev QA screenshots, and state the staging status or why staging was not checked.
Full details: Docstring Coverage
Explanation
Docstring coverage is 10.81% which is insufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff with cyclomatic complexity of at least 2. Documentation-only edits and deletions within surviving functions are included; unchanged diff context and fully deleted functions are excluded. Analyzed 74 functions across 23 files.
Resolution
Write docstrings for the functions missing them to satisfy the coverage threshold.

sent; `GRPC_LAS_TLS` currently defaults to plaintext. Update the LAS
client/server configuration to use matching TLS, and set `GRPC_LAS_TLS` true

- Line 70: Update the GRPC_LAS_HOST configuration so staging and production use
a reachable LAS gRPC endpoint, and ensure LAS is deployed before switching the
backend; do not rely on the localhost default outside local development.
